Kabul: The reports of Taliban offering a three-month ceasefire in return for the release of its 7,000 imprisoned fighters have been denied both by the insurgent group and Afghanistan government, said a media report.
According to the BBC, Nader Nadery, a government negotiator, said he had described an older offer and had been misquoted.
Taliban spokesman, Suhail Shaheen said the group had proposed reduction in violence a few months ago but there was no new proposal.
In the wake of the withdrawal of the US forces, Taliban has made rapid advances and the group has, reportedly, seized border crossings of Iran Tajikistan Turkmenistan and Pakistan.
The fighter group claims to have taken over 85 per cent of the country, which is disputed by the Afghan government, according to media reports.
It is also being said that Taliban controls around one-third or half of the 200 districts of Afghanistan.
Last year, 5,000 Taliban insurgents were released after a negotiation. However, many of these fighters went back to the battlefield, worsening the situation further.
