Shanghai: The Shanghai Disney Resort will be temporarily shut until further notice from Monday amid rising COVID-19 cases in China, media reports said.

"Due to the current pandemic situation, Shanghai Disney Resort, including Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown and Wishing Star Park will be temporarily closed from Monday, March 21, 2022," the statement issued on Sunday said as quoted by UNI.

"We will continue to monitor the pandemic situation and consult local authorities, and will notify guests as soon as we have a confirmed date to resume operations," it added.

China is witnessing its biggest wave of locally transmitted Covid-19 cases after it managed to contain the original outbreak of Wuhan in 2020.

Shanghai schools are closed and intensive testing programme has started, even as dozens of residential societies have been sealed for at least two days.

As of Sunday, mainland China logged 1,656 new locally transmitted coronavirus cases.
