Senior Project Manager

Position description:

The Public International Law & Policy Group, a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, is a non-profit organization that operates as a global, pro bono law firm providing free legal assistance to governments, sub-state entities and civil society groups engaged in negotiating and implementing peace agreements, drafting post-conflict constitutions, and establishing and operating transitional justice mechanisms. To facilitate the utilization of this legal assistance, PILPG also provides policy formulation advice and training on matters related to conflict resolution.

PILPG has advised over 30 governments, sub-state entities, and civil society organizations involved in the negotiation and implementation of peace agreements, post-conflict constitutions, and transitional justice mechanisms, including in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Burma, Egypt, Darfur, Georgia, Kenya, Kosovo, Iraq, Libya, Montenegro, Nepal, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tanzania, Uganda, and Yemen. PILPG has also provided legal assistance to every international criminal tribunal.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

PILPG seeks a dynamic mid-career project management professional who is passionate about peace negotiations, human rights, and transitional justice to support PILPG’s global programs as a Senior Project Manager. The Senior Project Manager will play a key role in the operational management work to guarantee that PILPG’s mission is met through its active projects. S/he will monitor wide developments of relevance to the effective and efficient functioning and implementation of PILPG’s operations and activities. The Senior Project Manager will also play a key role in the proposal lifecycle for PILPG, including having responsibility for, and oversight of, the preparation and submission of award proposals. The Senior Project Manager will report to PILPG’s Executive Vice President and Project Directors, and will work closely with PILPG’s program teams.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in the management of multiple PILPG programs by providing guidance and support for reporting processes, funder obligations, and development opportunities;
• Collaborate with PILPG’s operations and finance teams to maintain regular expense reports, track spending based on program activity, and monitor funding levels;
• Work closely with Program Directors and PILPG Senior Peace Fellows to guide project management;
• Manage, guide, develop, and train operations staff under her/his supervision. Provide staff members with clear objectives, goals, direction, guidance and appropriate tools to enable them to meet their responsibilities effectively and efficiently;
• Write, edit, and format proposal content. Provide guidance on shaping project plans that are responsive to donor solicitations and assist in managing proposal-drafting schedules to ensure that proposals are completed in a timely manner. Work with PILPG finance team to identify necessary parameters and inputs for project budgets. Review all final budgets to ensure that all proposal activities are captured; and
• Manage PILPG’s strategic and consistent communications with existing and potential funders and work with PILPG’s program teams to highlights successes and milestones.
PILPG is headquartered in Washington, D.C., but this position may be performed remotely.

Qualifications:

Education:

Master’s degree or equivalent in one or more of the following disciplines: business administration, business management, nonprofit management, public administration. A PMP or CAPM certification is desirable but not required.

Experience:

A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in strategic planning and business or project management, preferably at a senior management level. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working at or with an international nonprofit organization and previous experience managing programs in accordance with USG and other foreign donor requirements. An outstanding candidate will be an effective communicator, possess the ability to successfully prioritize and manage multiple clients and projects, and provide effective leadership across the organization.
