Job Description:
The Vermont Council on World Affairs seeks an External Affairs Manager to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and events; manage organizational communications and marketing; serve as an ambassador for the organization and support other VCWA initiatives. We are looking for a candidate with
strong organizational skills to handle media, news, and stewardship communications. To coordinate all event logistic activities and communication for the VCWA’s public programs, special events, conferences,
convenings, webinars, annual reports and alike. This position will produce and manage a variety of communication vehicles to promote the VCWA’s initiatives and educational programs and will handle the editing and production of materials. This role manages all content creation for public communications,
including website, social media outlets, and supervising student interns who work on communication and event related tasks.

Essential Job Functions
Organizational Communications and Marketing (40%):
? Prepare and send the VCWA’s bi-weekly e-newsletter and other occasional e-mails.
? Create marketing materials for the VCWA programs, including, but not limited to, brochures,
flyers, event webpages, and promotional graphics.
? Connect with other area organizations and networks to promote upcoming VCWA events.
? Prepare VCWA communications, materials, including annual report and fundraising appeals.
? Create impact reports for members and sponsors.
? Manage the organization’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.)
and blog.
Program Development, Implementation and Evaluation (30%):
? Arrange details and logistics for signature VCWA programs and other special events as needed.
? Distribute and analyze feedback surveys after events; make relevant recommendations.
? Track and analyze program attendance and use information to inform membership strategy.
? Support the development and successful implementation of International Visitor Programs.
Donor/Member Relations/New Development (30%):
? Identify and apply to new grant and sponsorship opportunities
? Secure sponsors for VCWA’s signature programs
? Develop and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, members, and supporters.
? Represent the VCWA at nonprofit and community events.
? Solicit new and renewing membership.
? Provide a high level of service including building strong relationships with members, nonmembers, donors, and others. Responds to inquiries and requests.
Qualifications:
? Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, event management, marketing, communications, or
other related field.
? 3 to 5 years’ professional experience; desire to grow as a nonprofit professional.
? Demonstrated passion for and knowledge of world affairs, global current events, and the VCWA’s
mission.
? Must possess strong organizational, critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as an attention to
detail.
? Ability to manage multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines is required. Also essential is a
high level of individual initiative and creativity, and experience working with diverse populations.
? Qualified candidates will have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience with successful grant-writing preferred.
? Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis and the use of metrics to drive
decisions and achieve strategic objectives.
? Development of cross-cultural competence, evidenced by prior work, study, or travel.
? Proven time and project management, dependability, efficiency, organization, and team skills.
? Creativity and ability to solve problems with diplomacy, flexibility, and good judgment.
? Professionalism and integrity.
? Salesforce, QuickBooks, website development experience a plus.
Environment and Other Expectations:
VCWA staff work in a fast-paced virtual environment and applicants should be prepared to balance multiple priorities and deadlines at once while working independently, as well as, collaborating with interns, volunteers, board members, and other area organizations. Applicants should have their own
transportation and be able to drive around the Greater Burlington Area. This position is fulltime with occasional evening and weekend events. While we are currently remote the expectation is you will be able to attend events in Burlington and move into an office within the next six months.
