Mumbai, Oct 11 (JEN): Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who turned 71 years on Friday, celebrated the day by announcing to reach solar power electricity to 3000 homes in India by funding the project from a trust named after his father, late poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.

Bachchan family runs HRB Memorial Trust, in memory of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, and on his birthday Big B said it has tied up with Urja Foundation to reach electricity to the homes where there is no power.

Thanking his fans, followers and media for backing him for 45 years since his film career began, he said : "I want to make a small announcement. There is a trust in the name of my father which supports many causes. We have decided to reach electricity through solar power to 3000 homes in collaboration with Urja Foundation [which promotes sustainable development]."

Bachchan, who addressed media outside his house Jalsa, said it is the first phase of the project and it will begin in November and then slowly scaled up.
