CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
REGULATING INNOVATION SPECIALISTS

FSD Africa is a non-profit company funded by UK Aid from the Department for International Development (DFID). It transforms financial markets in sub-Saharan Africa and the economies they serve to create jobs, build resilience and reduce poverty.

FSD Africa provides technical know-how and risk-bearing capital to champions of change whose ideas, in?uence and actions will make finance more useful to African businesses and households. It operates as a market catalyst and follows the making markets work for the poor (M4P) approach, which advocates for development impact at pace and scale, but critically, which lasts beyond the lifetime of any given project or transaction. Through financial inclusion initiatives, FSD Africa builds access to finance at individual and household levels.

The Consultancy

FSD Africa is looking to support the emergence of financial technologies businesses (FinTech’s) that advance financial inclusion and build financial markets. Without an enabling regulatory environment to foster useful innovation, promising business models may not flourish, and development outcomes may not be realised.

FSD Africa is looking to engage a part-time Consultant to provide additional support to its existing work across Africa on the theme of regulating financial innovation.

Skills and Experience required:
Master’s Degree and/or relevant professional qualifications.
Prior experience working with/in a market building programme.
Prior experience providing technical assistance in connection with legal and/or regulatory frameworks related to emerging financial technologies or business models.
Prior experience designing and delivering capacity building programs on regulatory innovation.
Relevant experience as lawyer or consultant dealing with financial sector law and policy issues.
A good understanding of, or experience in operating in an international, multi-disciplinary environment.
Ability to work responsively and proactively, against tight deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Demonstrated domain expertise.
Ability and willingness to travel across Sub-Saharan Africa.
