RSB is recruiting a Technical Advisor to support the implementation of RSB advisory services.
Location: Home based (ideally in Central European Time Zone).
Time: 75%
Start date: 1 November 2018.
Duration: 1 November to 30 July 2019 (maternity cover) with high likelihood of extension.
Reports to: Senior Advisor and Certification Manager.

Overview of Position:
The Technical Advisor will join a virtual team of highly motivated individuals dedicated to promoting
sustainability in the biofuels and biomaterials sectors through the implementation of the RSB Standard and
certification system.

The Technical Advisor will work with the RSB Senior Advisor and Certification Manager to develop and
implement advisory services projects as well as monitoring international policy on biofuels and biomaterials
and supporting additional areas of technical work related to the RSB Standard, certification system and
monitoring and evaluation.

RSB is providing advisory services to support industry to implement the RSB standards in planning and
operations. The Technical Advisor will have a detailed understanding of LCA and industrial processes for
biofuels and biomaterials as well as relevant technical discussions and legislation on biofuels and
biomaterials (especially the EU-Renewable Energy Directive).
The incumbent will provide technical input for business development discussions, preparation of proposals,
project management and implementation of advisory services contracts.
The Standards manager is supported by other team members, and consultants and reports to the RSB
Senior Advisor and Certification Manager.


Specific duties include:
1. Act as project manager and consultant for the implementation of advisory services contracts in
collaboration with the RSB Senior Advisor and Certification Manager and external consultants.
2. Implementation of advisory projects that will include the following types of work packages:
• GHG calculation (using the RSB online GHG calculator);
• Supply chain mapping;
• GAP analysis & benchmarking;
• Resource assessments that identify availability of sustainable feedstocks in given
geographies);
• Preparation for RSB certification;
• Training of company staff for implementing RSB certification; and
• Regional indicators based on benchmarking the RSB standard against national legislation.
3. Collaboration with the Business Development team to provide technical advice to prospective clients for
advisory services.
4. Coordination and technical input to advisory services proposals.
5. Maintenance of the RSB management system for the advisory services pipeline.
6. Monitor the development of key legislation in Europe and elsewhere on biofuels and
biomaterials, for example ICAO and report to the RSB team (CORSIA and EU-RED II).
7. Other duties as required including: technical support for monitoring and evaluation, certification, and
standard development.


Qualifications:
Required:
• 5 years’ work experience in LCA, and general sustainability for biofuel and biomaterials industry.
• Expertise in sustainability challenges in biomass production (agriculture, forestry, wastes) and
processing (biofuels, bioenergy, biomaterials)
• Track record in delivery in project management and implementation of consultancy projects

• Significant and documented experience in greenhouse gas emissions lifecycle analysis.
• In-depth experience with EU RED sustainability certification for biofuels and GHG calculation
• A Master’s degree, or equivalent, in a related field
• Fluency in English.

Desirable:
• Knowledge and experience with voluntary certification standards, standard development and global best
practice.
• Knowledge of the ICAO-CORSIA.
• Knowledge of ISEAL global best practice for voluntary standards.
