Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture Advisor (m/f)
in Kitshanga

The postition is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until September 30, 2019. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Kitshanga, Masisi Territory, North Kivu Province, DR Congo.

Your responsibilities

• Design and implement a nutrition sensitive agriculture strategy in all the areas of intervention of the project
• Design and develop approaches for the production, commercialization, transformation of agricultural produce of small holder farmers in the project area
• Integrate practical and tested know-how on nutrition sensitive agriculture and intensify agro-ecological practices in the projects
• Develop training and extension of production systems for both staff and partner NGOs
• Promote home gardens and small-scale animal husbandry to ensure ways to sustainable nutrition
• Design and develop approaches for post-harvest handling and processing and facilitate business development and market linkages
• Supervise and advise local organizations (NGO) in charge on the implementation of agricultural, animal husbandry and nutrition activities
• Assess training needs and provide guidance, on the job training and assistance to support staff and counterparts
• Ensure a strong relationship with local authorities, NGO and different platforms present in the project area
• Ensure proper project cycle management and sound reporting on impact and success indicators
• Provide support to local partners in charge of assistance to village committees for the development and implementation of village development plans

Your profile:

• A university or technical degree or qualification in the fields of agriculture, nutrition, agro-ecology or similar qualification
• Experience working with small-holder farmers and vulnerable communities
• Five years of progressively responsible experience of which at least three years in a development country
• Proven experience in working with partners such as local and national government, as well as local and international NGOs
• Knowledge and conflict transformation and Do No Harm techniques are an advantage
• A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
• Community facilitation and organizing skills are required
• Coordination and organizational skills, including ability to work under pressure
Proficiency in written and spoken French and English are required. Good knowledge of German is a plus
