Intern - Communications & Knowledge Management (JLN/UHC)

Internship Description and Educational Objectives: What you will learn during this internship?

R4D is seeking an intern to join the Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage.

The candidate will gain the following educational knowledge and training by the end of this internship:

• An understanding of basic elements of online knowledge management
• Tracking website and social media performance
• Basics of strategic communications and knowledge dissemination program
• Exposure to the workings of a cross-country collaborative learning model
• Understanding of universal health coverage in the development world
• Hands-on learning of communications activities (blogging, social media, campaigns and newsletters)

This internship is based in Washington, DC, and will report directly to the Communications and Knowledge Management Officer.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks including, but not limited to:

• Help audit website content to inform website redesign
• Assist with editing and posting blogs
• Assist with compiling content for newsletters
• Support tracking of performance indicators for all digital communication channels
• Sort and update subscription lists for external and member newsletters
• Develop lists of media outlets for JLN countries and global UHC/health journalists for media planning
• Identify handles for JLN to follow on Twitter
• Organize photos, tag them and create albums for JLN’s external photo-sharing platform
• Systematize & consolidate e-library of knowledge products – archive materials, find cross-linkages and tag
• Assist with conducting online survey of network members
• Support Monitoring and Evaluation tasks with data entry

Compensation:

• This is a paid internship and R4D interns will receive $12.50/hourly.

Eligibility & Requirements:

• Must be college/university undergraduate or recent graduate students, preferably with communications work experience up to 2 years.
• Interns are expected to work part-time, between 20 to 30 hours a week during the 3-month internship period.

Awarding academic credit for an internship is at the discretion of your college or university. We are happy to assist you with providing appropriate information at your school’s request. Interns are responsible for making all arrangements for earning credit prior to the commencement of their internship.

Qualifications:

• Strong research and organizational skills
• Excellent writing and proofreading skills, with high level of accuracy and attention to details.
• Experience with websites and social media tools desirable
• Experience or interest in international development, public health, virtual learning and/or communications
• Self-motivated to problem solve and reach out for answers
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software
• Must have enthusiasm to learn, good judgment and humor
