ABOUT THE JOB

The International Secretariat, which operates from a number of sites around the world, gathers and communicates accurate and action-oriented human rights information globally. We advocate and campaign for meaningful human rights change; enable effective human rights activism and work to persuade governments and other actors to uphold universal human rights standards. We provide strategic leadership, support and advice to the Amnesty International movement globally, fostering Amnesty International's contribution, presence and public accountability throughout the world.

ABOUT THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR ROLE
Responsible for leading and overseeing our work in the countries of West and Central Africa through a high capacity International Secretariat presence located in Dakar. This means being responsible for leading the development and implementation of integrated strategies to deliver human rights impact in, on and across relevant countries in the region, ensuring they are coherent with globally agreed strategies and priorities and undertaken in collaboration with other key stakeholders within and outside Amnesty International. As part of achieving this, you will be responsible for ensuring the integrated working of multi-functional offices delivering on effective research, advocacy, campaigning, communication, movement building, growth, fundraising and key relationship building strategies.

You will also represent the organization, strategically advocating our positions and building partnerships. As a member of the Amnesty International Management Team you will actively participate in the leadership, management and development of the International Secretariat and global movement.

ABOUT YOU
A politically astute, experienced, inspirational and resilient leader, you will bring your expert knowledge and experience as a leader capable of influencing the direction of Amnesty International's work and increasing our impact in the region.You will have a good grasp of human rights and a track record of standing up for human rights and social justice; as well as sound knowledge of regional political and social contexts that comes from living and working in the region. This is complemented by your awareness of membership and constituency building, fundraising and media visibility within the region. You'll be a strategic thinker who can prioritise, create plans, manage staff directly and in a global matrix, allocate resources and maintain a strong network of government, NGO and media contacts. So you'll have the communication, presentation and advocacy skills needed to represent Amnesty International to a variety of audiences, along with the credibility to influence them and effect positive change.
