Moscow, July 18 (JEN): A powerful quake of magnitude 7 on the Richter Scale shook Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on Tuesday, forcing the authorities to issue a Tsunami alert, local Tass news agency reported.
The head of Kamchatka’s Aleutian district, Svetlana Arnatskaya was quoted as saying by the agency that she felt the tremors, but added that no casualty was reported.
"Suspended items were swinging back and forth, items were tumbling off shelves. There has been no destruction," she said.
"The epicentre of the earthquake was 290 kilometers off Bering Island and 750 kilometers from the regional center Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The Sakhalin tsunami center assessed the quake magnitude as 7.7," the Tass report read.
